Megan Vahey is a nature and wildlife photographer based in Southwest Florida.Â
She was born and raised in Northern Virginia, where she fell in love with photography at a young age; often grabbing for the family Vivitar camera whenever the chance arose.
She would spend hours photographing whoever and whatever was willing to pose for her. Luckily for everyone else, there were only 24-36 shots on a roll of film. But just a few years later, digital cameras were more readily available. She was still shooting much of the same subject matter, but there was more room to improve with the seemingly endless amount of shots available.
She focused more on still life photography as she grew up. She got her first DSLR, the Nikon d40x, and discovered the world of macro photography. She loved making figurines and other small objects appear larger than life.
She attended George Mason University where she earned her BA with a concentration in photography. Her main focus continued to be macro still life.
After college, she moved down to South Carolina for a fresh start and a slower-paced life. She fell in love with the wildlife in the area and began a new series of work. A few years later, she moved even further south to the Gulf Coast of Florida.
These days, you’ll find her out among the birds and alligators and all that nature has to offer.
